I think it's going to kill the mailing list. I think the primary utility of
this mailing list is as a de facto major rendezvous point for futurists - I
know that's the first reason I'm still here. Put up barriers to entry, and
you kill the list.
The list does not need barriers to new members. It needs moderators who are
less reluctant to exercise the power that they have. Either that, or it needs
advanced filtering software that doesn't exist yet. And, oh yeah, the first
five messages from new posters should be vetted before hitting the lists - but
vet messages, instead of asking posters for physical addresses.
