I was thinking, one way to get all Americans behind expanding the war
abroad is for lawmakers to propose a 'Nationwide Spring Cleaning Patriot
Act' which would authorize the U.S. Armed Forces to conduct a detailed
warrantless search of each and every house, person, car, plane and boat
in the U.S. looking for, uh, weapons of mass destruction, terrorists,
anthrax, and while we're at it, drugs, illegal aliens, unregistered
firearms, suspicious books and magazines, certain chemicals, personal
computers not running Windows XP, ripped mp3 files, etc etc etc.
The stage could be set with Congress having lengthy debates on whether
we should invade Iraq or bring the army home for nationwide spring
cleaning.
Polls would measure public opinion with questions like: 'Should we
invade [insert today's target country here] or bring the army home for
the nationwide spring cleaning?'
I'd bet we'd see support for foreign adventuring go way way up!!!
