Well in a market economy as soon as it becomes possible to make money by
doing something, someone jumps on the opportunity and does it. So I believe
that as soon as the necessary enabling technologies are developed they will
be used to fill all new profitable market niches, including >H ones. But
right now developing enabling technology needs public funding that has to be
justified by mainstream memes. Another advantage of going mainstream is
better chances to fight the, I think inevitable, attempts to put legal
obstacles on >H way (e.g. cryonics).
>TT: I'm not so sure. It looks like most of the technology is on its way
without
> a H> meme driving it (perhaps with the exception of cryonics). So it's how
> the emergent technology is used that'll make it useful in a >H sense.
Using
> existing technology in innovative ways is not as expensive or difficult as
> creating it in the first place.

> So are >H Memes relevant to the development of H> base technologies?
