I suspect that Spinrad is about as erudite as someone who reads Scientific
American and listens to NPR, but never reads NewScientist, or goes poking
about Ben Goetzel's website. So if I say to Norman; "Hey, ya know, I read
some Computer Scientist's website article, that time may be helical in
nature? and Spinrad might say, 'Bullshit! Stephen Hawking says that time is
linear, and he's a Nobel prize winning physicist, and that's good enough for
me!" End of story because Norm has ceased to learn or be able to value
anything beyond the mean.
See, when I was in my late childhood, early teens, we had it all figured out
that the only fair way to solve problems was socialism. The world's people
were so poor, it was the only way, see? Maybe if they were all socialist,
that'd stop communism, right? We had it all figured out, we did. Well, we
were wrong-o! Or to paraphrase Theodore Sturgeon, we neglected to "ask the
next question."
Questioningly, Yours
