My personal bias is that I don't trust governments generally.
The US government has done or condoned/supported the doing of a
pretty considerable list of unsavory and even internationally
criminal things. It is not alone in that. Nor is its record of
support for human rights at home without considerable tarnish.
Being pro-freedom/pro-progress does not mean I have to be pro-US
government. IMO, the US government is a large and active threat
to real human freedom and advancement.
