I think you are right. It has been going on for a long time; Jules Verne
used the US as the setting for many of his adventures since it was a
suitably remote and strange canvas.
This thread seems to be degenerating into a shouting match, but I think
that at least shows the depth of the problem: there *is* a deep and
dangerous diplomatic gulf around. While governments are less extreme
than their intellectuals, they certainly share the same biases.
This is of course why we should find other ways of handling complex
international situations than governments. Not that non-government
solutions are less biased, but they are at least on a voluntary basis.
