I speculate this quote was in jest, (although am not
really sure), but I believe it to be quite errant. In
fact I think about the same proportion of 'stupid
people' flock to almost any political/social/etc.,
ideology as it becomes popularized. Generally their
'stupidity' is just a matter of going with the herd,
and eventually some of them start leading the flock
without ever having discovered where it was they were
headed.
I know of no scientific evidence of this, but can say
I've found liberals and conservatives that struck me
as really quite clueless.
Of course if it was defining said behavior as part of
conservativism, then it would, of course, be accurate.
