Axlotl or Axolotl ?
For more about axolotls, I recommend the short story by Julio Cortazar
called ... Axolotl. In _Blow-up and Other Stories_, 1963. Spooky
and unforgettable story (as usual for Cortazar).

P.S. to those who never heard this word, axolotls are the larva stage
(with gills) of a species of salamander of the genus Ambystoma.
Common in Mexico.
Spanish name: ajolote. Edible. Oil used like cod-liver oil.
