...or we can go back to the way air travel was throughout most
of its history, and abandon the fruitless paranoia that people
seem to think has always been with us. Up until the 60s, any old
joe sixpack could board a flight with a gun on his hip; it was
normal and expected that some people would do so, and that just
as in society at large, they tended to keep the peace. It was
only after irrational fear of hijackings took over and guns were
banned that hijackings actually became a problem.
