Subject: SOC/BIO: Protests at geron

>At 11:30 AM, a car swerved toward the demonstrators and a passenger threw
>coffee on them.
Well this is the only good news in this post.
when they got splashed, did they yell "I'm melting! I'm melting!"?
>On a second swerve the car hopped the curb and sideswiped a
>protestor, Ken Reed, who was holding a large photograph of an aborted baby.
>A Menlo Park police office saw the incident and gave chase on foot and got
>the license plate number.
>
>Two days later Menlo Park police found the driver and passenger who readily
>admitted to hit and run and reportedly asked, "Does this mean our names are
>going to be in the paper?" The police will release a report on the incident
>on Friday, December 10. Reed's attorney said this attack should be treated
>as a hate crime.
It's closer to self defense.
What can be done? I know this is only going to get worse. These wonderful
things I read about every day - the progress being made almost faster then I
can keep up with it - faces a giant wall of ignorance. It could set back a
cure for death by a century.. what can be done? Does anyone have any ideas?
1) violent self defense - continue work openly, regardless of legality and
opposition.. mind your own business and expect others to mind theirs. When
someone tries to stop you via the use of force, kill them - bad idea.. there
are more of them then there are of us.
2) do clandestine work on anti-aging treatments. Acquire stem cells for
research by cloning yourself in vitro. This is a good idea - but I don't
know how expensive it is to set up a lab to do this kind of work. I HOPE
there are some people already doing this, and being smart enough to keep
quiet about it. If this becomes widespread, in a couple years there could
very well be a war on progress akin to the war on drugs.

>In August Mahoney led a similar protest in front of ACT, just outside of
>Boston. Mahoney says they will continue to demonstrate at Geron and ACT, or
>any other company that decides to clone humans. In addition to the protests
>they plan to lobby state legislators to outlaw human cloning, starting with
>Louisiana, Alabama, and Idaho.
