Yes. Many models of memory consolidation doesn't hinge on it being
done in the sleep - it could be done when daydreaming, idling or just
doing something which we don't think of. The people fond of
correlating the theta rhythm in hippocampus with memory (I'm not :-)
point out that it is present during some situations rather than
others, which might suggest that we have two "modes".
