So it's OK for you to call  most religious people ignorant, but no one else is allowed the privelege? (I'm referring to your last sentence.)
Most the religious people I know would interpret any criticism as "religion bashing"....  
If someone's belief in a great big spook in the sky constrains them to favor the teaching of the non-science of creationism over workable, tested, productive theory of evolution, perhaps some bashing is in order.
Also, when a group of like-minded thinkers is assembled, there is sometimes an exuberance that can erupt in some strong comments.  You can bet, however, that the last thing on the mind of a bunch of atheists is to go out and lynch a bunch of believers.  I wish I could say the same about the fire and brimstone type of Christian.
