I've often wished that books and music were distributed on a shareware
basis. I'd happily have paid a buck apiece for each song and book I
liked enough to listen to/read more than twice - including the books I
bought used - and the author would still make more than they do now,
assuming zero cost of production (ebooks). Not only that, but I could
voluntarily pay extra for books like "Permutation City" or "True Names".
