Has anyone mentioned Stanislaw Lem (Polish SF writer and philosopher)?
His non-fiction books "Summa Technologiae" and "Dialogi" discuss
things like future development of various technologies, the convergence
of biological and technological evolution etc., as well as problems
of mind and personal identity. Though written in the 60's, in principle
they contain transhumanist and extropian topics (Lem was way ahead
of his time then and anticipated many recent developments).
Of course, his SF work is equally inspiring and recommended.

P.S.: I don't know if all of his work has been translated into
      English; I hope so.
