I agree with that. I have to sort through huge amounts of information
every day, and unless it seems to be very interesting or important I
will not spend the time decoding it, especially if it involves (as in
this case) of saving the file, uudecoding it, transferring it to
another computer and viewing it there.
ASCII is limited. But that is also an advantage: it is clean,
everyone can read it (even on a toaster running CP/M) and it forces
us to concentrate on contents.
