TECH: Cheapo Augmented Reality & Telepresence Spycams

Couldn't a cheapo version of augmented reality be accomplished by creating
a head-mounted display where you were looking at dual two non-transparent
screens for stereoscopic vision with two color video cameras in front of
them and use the simple blue screen (or green screen) effect in conjunction
with LPS (local positioning systems) to superimpose images everywhere. It
would be far cheaper than using transparent displays and attempting to
align real world images with graphics. We will need to go the route of dual
video cameras eventually anyways so that we can see in ultraviolet,
nightvision, or infrared which would be trickier and more costly than
developing transparent displays. Also on a slightly different topic, just
imagine the stereoscopic portholes to the outside world that will develop
on the internet (like the current generation of spy cams) when inexpensive
decent VR goggles hit the market! I myself won't be satisfied with the
internet's bandwidth until I can have a live streaming video feed of the
shore of a tropical island as my windows wallpaper. This is the second time
I'm sending this post because last time no one responded as to whether
cheapo AR was possible.
