I know! I know!

I grew up in the N.O. area, and what would happen is that they would throw
a party!

When I was growing up, oil refinaries with some regularity would blow up
in Luling (just up river). Huge flames would rise hundreds of feet into
the air for hours or days. And what would we do? Thousands of people
would gather on the levee on the opposite side of the river and set up the
bar-b-ques, play games, or just sit back in lawn chairs drinking beer and
enjoy the spectacle. Street vendors would start hawking souvenirs and
food, and street performers would come from the Quarter and do their acts.

They don't call it the Big Easy for nothing...
