How I crave to be as `almost totally unknown' as Robert Heinlein.
As for heritability, the saddest aspect of RAH's life is that he and his
second wife (or perhaps third, it gets murky) were unable to have kids,
despite his palpable yearning for family. So we'll never know how many of
his characteristics would have been passed along. It is instructive,
however, to consider the relationship between Isaac Asimov and his son
David (who?), who received in his dear old brilliant Dad's autobiography as
distressing a public annihilation as I've ever seen.
