Ignoring history for fun and profit

A year or so ago it was Pinkerton with their 'Waveamerica' program to
get schoolkids to become informers. You got candy and cool prizes if you
turned in your fellow students. There were uninformed of 'The Wave', the
high school experiment in fascism of several years ago that became a
book and a movie. This is all documented on slashdot somewhere (John
Katz wrote some articles on this).

The other night I heard how some German company, Siemens I believe, had
picked a name for a new gas oven -- 'Zyklon'. Recall that Zyklon-B was
the gas the germans used to execute large numbers of Jews and other
'undesireables'. How quickly they forget.

And now of course on Amazon ( ASIN: B00005NEBW ) you can get a Harry
Potter witch's broom with 'vibrating effects'. Consider the idea that
real medieval witches used various drugs applied to broomsticks and then
inserted these to get off (maybe in more ways than one ? :-)

Meanwhile the SPLC reports outrage against apparel (hats and jackets)
with '88' on them, the idea being that H is the 8th letter of the
alphabet so 88 must mean Heil Hitler. I dunno about this one, seems a
stretch.
