I think there are a couple of points here for a hawk to make:
1. Just as in general citizenship responsibilities I think a hawk has to be
careful about which wars he is willing to support. Admiral Stockdale seems
to indicate that the Gulf of Tonkin psuedo incident was seized upon by LBJ as
a device to win an election. That is all I wish to say on that score.
2. The citizens also need to take enough interest in military affairs to
make sensible political decisions and that includes what they think of the
hawks.
