If you feel you're being trolled, don't respond.
If you genuinely think that the message is serious, respond seriously.
If it wasn't serious, perhaps a serious discussion could evolve from the
original troll message regardless, which would be positive.
If you aren't sure one way or another, why not privately ask the OP if
they are serious or merely trolling for responses?
