I recall readings from the post-Vietnam, pre-Gulf War era, criticisms of
US capabilities, one which claimed the only way the WP would be slowed
in a blitz thru western europe would be by the wreckage of NATO tanks
clogging the roads.

My awareness of the actual situation at that time was limited to
boardgames such as for example Victory Games' NATO (operational level)
and SPI's Firefight (tactical level). I wonder if the malaise ever even
approached the level implied by such critics. Though I noted that
neither of these games had any morale issues (as within the game system
the units always did what you told them to.)
