>Rand's image of male-female relationships was certainly not something I'd
aspire to, although I appreciated certain aspects such as regarding sex as a
celebration of values rather than as shameful or manipulative. Regardless of
the shortcomings of Rand's ideas of male-female relationships, her female
characters such as Kira Argounova and Dagny Taggart were strong,
intelligent, exceptionally competent women who were capable of passionate
love for people, beauty, and ideas.<
Thanks for reading through my backward sentences. -:)
Dagney Taggart is an inspiration. She portrays strength, curiosity, honor and dignity. I would have preferred that she create her own image. She was made out of the rib of John Galt and other men. Who was her female inspiration, her female mentor?
Dominique Francon (_Fountainhead female lead_) was beautiful, sexual, deep voiced, professional and committed to her beliefs. She was also a pawn which she herself played to entice men. While she played herself quite proficiently and with agile fingers, she was admittedly incomplete by herself alone, and hungered for the artistry of her lover to complete herself. She married a man she did not love to prove a point which, although was not dangerous to her person, squelched her "true" self. She used this man to hurt another.
Kira Argounova (_We the Living_, incredible film) epitomzes a young woman who falls in love with a *man who represents* all of her ideals and values.
All women are strong, intelligent, passionate and beautiful and have careers and goals. They are all self-starters. They all are female versions of Rand's ideal male.
There is not question that Rand female characters are better than fiction's repeated inferior illusions of women. Yet, for me the female characters developed Jane Austin's writings are more convincing and real.
