Software millionaire Ron Unz ran in 1994 and made a decent showing for
the Republican nomination, something like a third of the vote, though
he's more famous now for financing an anti-bilingual education
initiative.
There are several prominent politicians from the "tech" world now,
perhaps most notably US Senator Cantwell, Democrat representing
Washington, a former Real executive. Steve Westly, an eBay executive,
is the Democratic nominee for California Controller this year.
La dee da. I see little reason to expect politicians coming from our
"tech" world act much differently than politicians coming from other
tech worlds (agriculture, finance, law ... those are technologies too).
IMO voting for a poltician because they "know tech" is about as ignorant
as voting for a politician for any other reason of affiliation (e.g.,
race, religion, age, sex).
