Unfortunately you may be correct. In the February 2001 issue of
Nature Neuroscience is a report that the protein made from the
NR2B gene makes mice more aware of pain and for longer periods
of time. That might even be why they acted smarter, they had
more incentive to avoid punishment. So you might end up smart
as a whip but hurt like hell all the time, it doesn't sound like a
very sweet deal.
