Dear Kathryn,
I will forgo the expectation that you would answer the
questions I asked in my post if you will tell me this:
If I am "trapped as [are] the women in this system" why
don't I consciously experience this entrapment as some
form of "culture binding" which narrows my choices and
impoverishes the sense and expression of my identity?
Please note that "my identity" above does not refer to any
particular characteristic (such as "gender") to the artificial
exclusion of the many others (such as "recognition of calling"
or vocation).
You see, what I DO realize is that impersonation of a
generic social role of any kind calls for a decision rather
than a passive resignation. And I have decided not to
engage in role-playing as a means of social interaction.
