Lorber is a giant in the social sciences, and it surprises
me that you haven't heard of her work. It forms a
basis of current gender theory, to the point where I thought
that I shouldn't write about it because it was so basic.
Certainly a gender studies journal would raise eybrows at
me sticking to such worn ground....
I'm also surprised that you would contend that cultures are
hard to change, seeing as we live in the American culture,
which thrives on rapid change. Looking back over the past
twenty years, there has been an astounding amount of change
in gender roles and gender relations, as well as other areas.
Other nations are rapidly adjusting their cultural norms as
well. And women's rights was cited as one of the key advances
of the past millenium in two different television specials
about the millenium this past week.
Sincerely,
Kathryn Aegis
