Well, perhaps I've asked the wrong person.

The question seems legitimate to me, because if we assume a one in a million
chance or less (as you've done), then the chance of locating ETIs doesn't
merit the effort (unless, of course, you manage to earn a living collecting
donations from SETI fans). In its present state of confrontational
fragmentation (sorry about that) the human race can't even locate an
enlightened master on their own planet.
