Since there are no readily available supplies of anti-matter anywhere in
our area of the universe, we have to make our own via high energy
particle beam collisions. Such a means of creating anti-matter consumes
far more energy than we could extract from a matter / anti-matter
engine. To generate enough anti-matter for one interstellar trip, it
would take the entire electrical output of the worlds electric grid for
several years.
