Because it isn't.
The topic was hashed out some time ago on rec.arts.sf.science, when
there was some concern that Pluto would lose its status as planet
(which it hasn't, btw). Conclusion: Planets are those celestial
bodies that are *defined* by the International Astronomical Union
(IAU) to be planets.
