I think it may be a privacy issue, after all if they were to know who
Clark Kent really was he would constantly be plagued with people wanting
autographs, asking him to bend stuff, taking pictures with the kids....Who
needs that? Also I believe it adds mystique' to the character and allows
room for character exploration.
