Damien,
This is an excellent point, and raises an important question. Should the
guiding principle for sentencing be limited to punishment and protection of
society, or should it be the redemption and reclaimation of those who our
society have lost. I personally believe the ideal would be rehabilitation,
but fear the pragmatic answer might lean more toward protection of society. I
would be interested to hear how you believe these two goals relate to an
Extropian ethic. How do we treat those who do not respect the right to live
unmolested in one's own person?
