As to the recent discussions on the singularity via an AI.
If you support the theory that wealth comes from intelligence, which is the
driving force behind positive sum economy, then for an AI to make a
singularitarian explosion singlehandedly it not only has to have the
intelligence of a single human. It has the have the intelligence of that
superintelligence that is the combined distributed intelligence of the world
economy. Or else it would not be an explosion.
-- With nanotech an AI will probably be able to make this kind of
intelligence itself. But the world econmy and thus humanity will also be
able to develop itself via nanotech and make a strong IA.
-- Without nanotech the entire economic infrastructure has to follow along.
If ie a very intelligent computer tries to build new hardware for itself to
accellerate it's growth, it will have to contract this job to an excisting
hardware producer. They will then also have the technology plus they will
get paid to make the hardware. This will all help spreading the knowledge
and wealth of an AI. Thus it will drag society along.
