Are these advanced and retarded waves at all related to those of the Lorentz
gauge in classical EM? My EM textbook said there were multiple ways
of dealing with Maxwell's equations, and described two: the Coulumb gauge,
where the potential throughout the universe reflects the charge distribution
throughout the universe *at that moment*, and the Lorentz gauge, which had
these waves going up and down the timestream.
But if I recall correctly, Gribbin's idea required the universe to be closed,
didn't it? Otherwise you don't get the proper reflection from the future, or
something.
