This topic is actually examined, to some extent, in James Halperin's novel
The First Immortal. As for my comments, it seems possible but it also
seems to require a level of understanding of the brain that would enable
us to create SIs, thus destroying society as we know it. That's the
problem with most really advanced technologies.
