I recall an article in Science News about 20 years ago.
at certain times of year in Kenya, fruits fall into
water holes, sink to the bottom, and ferment. The
elephants really do end up ingesting enough alcohol
to get drunk. Apparently, a drunk elephant is an
awsome sight. No, I'm not making this up.
The lesson is that somebody on this list will respond
to just about anything :-)
Secondary lesson: an ecology is a lot more complicated
than the simple sum of the information in the genomes
of the various species. This is the reason we need to
try to preserve ecosystems and not just genomes as we
ramp up to transhumanity.
