Yes, it is possible to track fairly quick phenomena using their
magnetic signatures; a current will produce a dipole field which can
be detected. But while this has a good time resolution (quick changes
can be seen) the spatial resolution is not very good (centimeters, the
concerted action of millions of cells). The problem is that the brain
is like an immense crowd of talking people, individual voices get lost
in the noise.
