True. Perhaps we need to launch the whole works high enough for the 'chutes
to become effective.

Or, we could stay away from aircraft and airports in our second and
subsequent decades. Could be there will be a workable 'transporter' system
in plce by then..

What is the consensus of underground orbital transports running in evacuated
tunnels? This would completely eliminate the takeoff and landing hazards as
we know them..an be an order of magnitude faster than aircraft, not to
mention cleaner and quieter!
