As a reader of the list and not a poster, one area of my expertise has
come up on this question. I can assure you beyond any reasonable doubt,
nuclear power plants are the least computerized technology you can imagine.
The technology is so old now (but simple and reliable) that the
combination of a 10 yr lead time and no new orders since 1976 means we
operate huge (and I mean closet sized) 8k turbine control systems and thats
about it. Any new computer system that exist are simply nice to have, not
need to have. The exception may be the government required simulators, most
use SGI systems, but again that is a nice to have, not a need to have
item.
