I'm not so sure that this is incorrect. If we're right that the human
brain can be uploaded to a computer, then what we see as consciousness is
merely a state in the machine; an emergent property of the network. If we
don't have souls then in some sense all consciousness *is* linked because
it's all the same process.

Not very wonderful at all, really. I'm still not sure of the full
implications of my theory above, but I certainly hope that it doesn't mean
that there's only one consciousness in the universe. That sounds pretty
dull to me.
