Snuff films are films made for profit featuring real deaths, deaths which
have been effected only for the purpose of the films. Sure, (e.g.) serial
killers have been known to videotape their activities, but the purpose of
the killings has never been to make a commercial movie. Merriam Webster's
10th Collegiate Dictionary doesn't agree with this definition
("characterized by the sensationalistic depiction of violence; esp:
featuring a real rather than a staged murder"), but it is the one used on
alt.folklore.urban, and the one I think we all should subscribe to.
