If you read Staurt Hameroff's "Ultimate Computing: Biomolecular Conciousness and
Nanotechnology" he proposes that the neuronal cytoskelaton (which is quite
complex in itself) is the root of our conciousness. Based on extensive studies
of the cytoskelaton, some have guessed that each neuron and its accompanying
cystoskelatal network is a small parallel processing computer.
If this is true, It would seem to seriously increases our brains processing
power and complexity.
