I have suffered a good deal of inconvenience from aspects of my physical
accoutrement vis a vis aspects of the California experience. I would keep
all these inconveniences switched 'off,' given the opportunity. Had I
already done so, I would not now be enjoying the considerable insight and
perspective engendered by these inconveniences. I can even see the benefits
of my poor eyesight and problematical memory. These sorts of randomly
distributed hardships/enrichments remind me of the random brain firings
people were talking about with regard to creativity. I can certainly see
how tempting it would be to have more choice about one's engineering, and
I'm glad I got 39 years of imperfection under my belt already, before I get
more choices.
