Y'know Kathryn, this is the sort of stuff I remember from my psych
class. As the 30's archeaologists painted a picture of Mayans as
peacefull little socialists (painted with their own preconceptions and
political positions), and sociologists painted Trobriand (Samoa) society
as matriarchal and free of the oedipal conflicts in child development
that we see here in our "patriarchal" society (when they were totally
wrong on both counts), politically motivated soft scientists are
constantly trying to find exceptions in little knotholes of the world,
trying to prove that our "patriarchal", capitalistic society is the
cause of all our ills, etc etc etc.
I would go so far as to say that any exceptions to the rule that are out
there are not likely to be true in fact, but only true in the minds of
the politically motivated soft scientists who study them, and promote
them for propagnada purposes.
