I'm not sure about this. I heard yesterday about an experiment with
implants into the auditory cortex on a patient with atrophied auditory
nerve, where they put many electrodes on the surface and then tested out
which gave what sound. After having labelled them, they managed to get a
somewhat comprehendible audition. I'll look around some more about this.
