I say:
Well, the circumstances were rather different, but it can't hurt to
try. Permit me to suggest that repurposing secular holidays like
Halloween (pace Wiccans, I mean it's perceived in the main as
secular) might be less likely to backfire. And Halloween is the
second biggest moneymaker after xmas in the US these days.
