On Thursday November 28, 2002 the Toronto Transhumanist Association will be
holding a discussion group on the topic "Women's Issues in the 21st
Century." Members and nonmembers are encouraged to attend.
We are fortunate to welcome special guest Shari Golberg. Shari has a
background in studies related to women's issues and is currently working
with the Government of Ontario's Women's Directorate. We are also thankful
for input from Natasha Vita-More, current director of Progress Action
Coalition, and Michal Nahman, currently completing a sociology doctorate on
reproductive technology at Lancaster University.
Among other concerns, we aim to deal with the following:
1) What technological, sociological and economic developments will most
impact women in the 21st century?
2) What is preventing more women from engaging in discussion and debate
about the impact of such developments?
3) What can be done to increase women's involvement in futurological
endeavours?
4) What can be done to address challenges women might face in the future?
We will begin at 6:00 PM sharp with a short presentation. We will then
continue with a moderated discussion until 8:00 PM.
For the venue we have secured a room at the 519 Church Street Community
Centre. (Special thanks to David White for this.) It is located on the East
side of Church Street, just North of Wellesley, a five-minute walk from the
Wellesley subway station or a ten-minute walk from the Yonge-Bloor subway
station. We will be meeting in the Pine Room, located in the basement.
If you're interested in attending, please notify me, George Dvorsky, at
george@betterhumans.com, and I'll e-mail you a copy of the presentation.
I look forward to a spirited and informative discussion.
Regards,
George Dvorsky
