Heh. From the depth and breadth of your post one wouldn't guess that
you were time limited.

I must say that the various arguments presented in this thread (by
Robert, Anders, Eugen, Avatar Polymorph, and others) have reduced a
few of my concerns.

I'm still skeptical that we'll have assemblers by 2050, but I'd place
better odds on it than I would have a few days ago.

I DO believe that we'll have a huge range of extremely powerful,
highly specialized, non-replicating nanomachines by then.

Thanks all for an informative and thought provoking thread thus far.
