Amara, while I haven't really participated in the political threads
going on lately, I would like you to know that you are not alone among
extropians in feeling that the US is headed in an unfortunate
direction right now. Thank you for your posts trying to explain your
position on this list.
For myself, I came to this country at the age of 3. My family and I
spent decades in a legal struggle to become US citizens because we all
felt that this was the best place in the world to live. Eventually we
succeeded. I'm proud to be a US citizen and to live here. I still
feel that the US is the best place in the world to live, and embodies
some of the noblest ideals yet seen in mankind.
I find no conflict in loving my country, being proud of it, and
feeling that it's heading in a very sad and very dangerous direction
right now.
with hope,
mez
