Avatar,
I am just curious -- Of all the long list of nations in
the world that
have capital punishment why did you single out the US by name?
What would
impel you to do this?
Ron h.

A: The US is "Western" as generically defined. Amongst "Western" countries
the US is now I think alone in practising the death penalty.

B: The US is largely Anglo-Celtic culturally, which is the case in Australia
too.

C: The US is English language based largely. As I speak only English fully,
I am largely restricted to US and UK and Canadian and New Zealand and Irish
works. Although translation mechanisms on the Net and in scanning software
are now beginning to change this scenario.

D: Occasionally American commentators claim a "special" status for their
political and ethical system including Constitution, and claim it is a
"model" for the world (as was claimed in the 19th century, when much of
Europe was non-democratic). Others (including non-Americans) claim America
to be the most powerful country in the world. Therefore it can be argued to
deserve special attention.
